Let me help you prepare for your Boudoir session. Boudoir photography has become a powerful form of self expression. It allows you to celebrate your femininity, sensuality, and learn to love the body you have. For most this is something out of their comfort zone which is why proper preparation is key. It helps you feel ready and comfortable for your session. Here’s the ultimate Boudoir session prep guide to ensure you feel prepared and leave feeling amazing!
Choose the Right Photographer
Start by doing a little research to find a photographer that fits your style and vibe. Now a days you can do light and bright glamour Boudoir, dark and moody sexy Boudoir, or a mix of both. You want someone who will make you feel comfortable and will allow you to be private if you want. Not everyone wants their photos shared on social media. So take the time to look through their portfolio to see if they have worked with women similar to you. Give them a call or email to talk about your vision. And most of all make sure they are professional and have been doing this style for awhile. You want someone who can direct you and walk you through all the poses.
Communication is Key
Another way to prepare for your Boudoir session is with communication. Before your session communicate openly with your photographer about your comfort level, preferred poses, and any specific shot you want. I personally give each client a questionnaire to get to know them and their style better so I can personalize their session. Most clients communicate with email or text but I am available for phone calls or in person consultations. I also ask each client if they want to share their photos or if they would prefer to keep things private.
Plan Your Outfits
Select outfits that make you feel sexy, confident and comfortable. Bring a variety of outfits so your photographer can help you choose what will look best. Remember you don’t have to just bring lingerie. You can bring bodysuits, robes, oversized sweaters, Jerseys, button up shirts, and so much more. The Week Before Your Session
The week before your session pamper yourself with a manicure and pedicure. Freshen up your hair and start hydrating your body. Try on all of your outfits to make sure they fit properly. Also make sure your heels or shoes you are bringing are clean on the bottom. Make sure you get plenty of rest the night before and have something small to eat that morning. The last thing you want is to be hangry. Show up with loose fitting clothes so you don’t get lines and something that can easily go over your head so you don’t mess up your hair and makeup.
The Day of Your Session
Make sure you have everything packed and ready so the morning of you just need to eat something small and head on over. Show up with clean/dry hair and no makeup on. When you arrive I will show you the studio, talk about what we will be doing, and then introduce you to our hair and makeup artist. As she is doing your hair and makeup I will go through what you brought to make a game plan for our session. You can relax with a glass of champagne while listening to your favorite music. Most of the time hair and makeup takes 1.5-2.0 and this gives us time to chat, relax, and feel pampered.
Now Just Trust Your Photographer
I have done 4 Boudoir sessions myself, so I understand how you feel. During your session I will walk you through all the poses. I show you the pose first and then have you recreate it. We will take a variety of photos and most clients get a gallery with over 100 photos to choose from. I will make sure the lighting is correct and the angles are good. It is my job to make sure you look and feel amazing. It is your job to relax and have fun. Then you will get your gallery in less than 72 hours. Most clients end up loving WAY more photos than they thought and end up buying a bigger album than they planned.
Remember Boudoir photography is about embracing you exactly as you are. We will celebrate your beauty, your strengths, and what makes you unique. You will learn how to embrace your body, love your curves, and any imperfections you think you have. As women we are very hard on ourselves and are our own worst critics. You do not need to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty. Instead, you need to learn to appreciate and love the body you have now. So go ahead and unleash your inner goddess. Let your confidence shine and feel empowered because you are beautiful exactly as you are.
